Abstract : The article describes transistorized television transmitting equipment consisting of a portable TV camera and a backpack components cabinet. The camera consists of a photoconductive camera tube, a focusing coil, a deflecting coil, a feeder circuit, and a preamplifier weighing 2.5 kg, and the backpack weighs 16.5 kg and consists of a VHF TV transmitter, a synchronizer, horizontal and vertical sweep circuits, and a power supply unit. The picture signal taken by the television camera is transmitted by the VHF transmitter to the television station through a microwave television relay truck. Distance between transmitter and truck may be 4 km. The transmitter operates on a frequency of 199.25 mc at an output power higher than 5 w. A folded dipole antenna having an input impedance of 75 ohm is used. Two inverters supply the positive and negative high voltages to the camera tube and the transmitter. The input power for the two inverters is supplied by 14 silver-zinc batteries, which have a capacity of 20 amp-hr and can maintain transmitter operation for 4 hours continuously. The total power consumption of the equipment is 45 w. The TV receiver mounted on the relay truck has an overall receiving sensitivity up to 50 microvolts and a noise factor below 8 db and is almost identical with a conventional TV receiver.
