Abstract : The paper presents observations on a number of factors influencing the binding of hexokinase by rat brain mitochondria, and describes further studies on the nature of the latent form of the enzyme. The results suggest that various metabolic intermediates, whose concentrations are known to vary with the cerebral glycolytic rate, may regulate the in vivo hexokinase activity through their effect on the soluble-particulate distribution of the enzyme, the particulate enzyme being considered the more active form.
