Abstract : A study was made of the feasibility of constructing a receiving antenna with a minimum backscattering and a maximized received power, utilizing techniques of impedance loading. With the freedom of choosing two identical loading impedances and a center load impedance, an optimum receiving antenna with zero backscattering and infinite received power can be constructed. If the degrees of freedom in choosing the loading and the center load impedances are reduced, a near optimum receiving antenna with a minimum backscattering and a maximum received power can be realized. One interesting phenomenon of 'frequency-rejection characteristics' was observed in a reactively loaded receiving antenna which gives zero backscattering and at the same time delivers zero power to the center load.
