Abstract : This report presents an analytical framework for the investigation of MGD (Magnetogasdynamics) acceleration by induced Hall currents. Numerical results will be given in subsequent reports and utilized to design the experimental phase of this research. Since the mechanism of (j sub theta)(B sub r) accelerating forces has been established experimentally using high temperature arcjets as the plasma source, emphasis is placed on relatively cool working fluids where nonequilibrium ionization due to elevated electron temperatures may be a factor. The analytical model of Kerrebrock for this process is incorporated in the analysis. (Author)
