Abstract : If large-caliber weapons are mounted on lightweight vehicles, firing shock could present a problem of safety and gunner task performance degradation. The following plan was accomplished: (1) objective acceleration measurements of firing shock in an anthropomorphic dummy, (2) measurements of acceleration in actual gunners, (3) simulation in a dynamic simulator, and (4) subjective responses of a sample of gunners. Study results were used to demonstrate system feasibility, establish design parameters, and establish base line information for future studies. (Author)
