Abstract : In theory, the image enhancement or reconstruction process which utilizes prolate spheroidal wave functions can obtain infinite resolution in a noise-free environment. There are several practical factors which limit this resolution to finite values--truncation of the enhancement process to a finite number of terms, approximation to the process input parameter, the far field, and white noise. Also, for lossy antennas, gain and directivity are limited to approximately that of a uniformly illuminated array. (Author)
