Abstract : The measurement of wave heights as they break on a beach is essential to the study of the effect of the wake of a ship breaking on the sloping shores of a relatively confined channel such as a negative river. The report presents the results of measurements of waves generated by a variety of ship models moving at various speeds and in varying water depths in a model basin. Measurements of amplitudes were made using parallel wire gages. The surface configuration of the ship waves in these studies were defined photogrammetrically. The report presents the graphical results of these photogrammetric measurements. (Author)
