Abstract : This research was concerned with the development of a model to simulate the operational, maintenance, and training activities of the DDG-2 class Guided Missile Destroyer. The model was developed as a means of solving the complex problem of determining the number and type of personnel required to man Navy ships in a manner such that equipment and training readiness goals are achieved. The development effort included: (1) a functional analysis of the DDG-2 class ship; (2) the development of the computer model; (3) the collection of input data, and (4) model debugging and checkout. At the present time the model has been checked out, and a series of runs have been made. The model structure is best described as an imminent event, digital simulation. The program was written in FORTRAN IV for the CDC 3800 computer system. Volume I presents the procedures used to develop the model, as well as its functional specifications. (Author)
