Abstract : The author has covered the subject of future rocket engines from the viewpoint of improvement of current models to the more distant future when basically new forms of energy will be available as power sources. Under the heading of current types, liquid, solid, and hybrid propellant engines are dealt with separately. Problems of increasing thrust, improving combustion stability, and improving reliability and control are considered in detail. The main source of reference material is published reports of U.S. models taken from readily available sources. Only passing reference is made to any Soviet examples. (Author)
