Abstract : Elastic scattering in reactive systems may yield information not only on interactions as in non-reactive systems but also about the chemical reaction. In this report a theory is briefly discussed for elastic scattering in reactive systems, the so-called optical model of reactions, some measurements, and their interpretation which leads to information on reaction probabilities, reaction threshold conditions, total reaction cross sections and their energy dependence, and on potential surfaces of reaction in the entrance channel. The results obtained from non-reactive scattering in reactive systems and those obtained from measurements on the products of the reaction tend to supplement each other. For the few systems for which comparisons have been made the results agree within experimental uncertainties. (Author)
