Abstract : A cation exchange-hydrochloric acid system was devised to separate lithium, magnesium, and aluminum from each other. The method was applied to the analysis of synthetic mixtures containing 0.5 to 10 percent aluminum and 1 to 20 percent lithium. The separation procedure and methods employed to determine the elements in their separate fractions are described. An anion exchange-hydrochloric acid system was employed to separate 0.1 to 20 percent zinc from magnesium. An improved chelometric method is presented for the determination of the separated zinc.
