Abstract : A simple model of a generating CO2-N2 mixture was investigated in detail. A simple method used to estimate the power output makes it possible to avoid cumbersome calculations of the nonlinearity parameter. The excitation probability of the upper nitrogen level (S) is determined from the velocities and the number of the exciting electrons, i.e., the pumping power. Probabilities of deactivation of the upper laser level are computed as functions of particle concentration (N) in the mixture and the efficiency of the collisions. The magnitudes of level populations, emission power, the power expended for nitrogen excitation, and the quantum output are tabulated for high excitation probability and deactivation values. For small nitrogen concentrations and high excitation probabilities, the output power is determined from the number of energy transfers from nitrogen to carbon dioxide. Formulas presented make it possible to estimate the dependence of output power on the loss factor. (Author)
