Abstract : The authors propose a method for calculating the composition and thermodynamic functions of an arbitrary reacting heterogeneous system. A new feature is to regard the condensed phase as approximately a reacting ideal solution. In the general case, as is known, a system of equations for chemical equilibrium can be solved only numerically. A number of calculation difficulties then arise, mainly owing to the divergence of the methods adopted and the large number of calculations involved. In the method proposed in the paper, the convergence of the iterative method is improved by converting the coordinates of the iterated system of equations (reorientation). A programme based on the method suggested uses reorientation to an arbitrary base of K linearly independent particles. The most rapid convergence corresponds to the case where the predominant components are basic. (Author)
