Abstract : The objectives as well as the details of the conventional type of correlation analysis are critically examined and deficiencies are pointed out with suggestions for possible improvement. A new technique for measuring amplitude and phase fluctuations is then described, preliminary results are presented and the advantage of combining amplitude and phase information is emphasized.
