Abstract : Ocean bottom slopes measured near 32 deg 40 min. N, 120 deg W with a deeply towed echo-sounder are used to obtain a cumulative distribution of bottom slopes and consequent transverse linear error in positions given by bottom-bounce sonar. It is indicated that 90% of the errors will be less than 1440 yards for north-south tracking azimuths, and less than 500 yards for east-west azimuths. (Author)
