Abstract : The TsNIIGAiK has conducted experimental work for developing methods for topographic surveying at 1:5,000 and 1:2,000. During 1965-1966 experimental photogrammetric work was done for the following purposes: Clarifying the accuracy in determining the elevations of terrain points on universal stereophotogrammetric instruments from large-scale aerial photographs taken with different aerial cameras; finding the accuracy in determining horizontal coordinates on universal instruments; determining the accuracy in statoscope readings during flights at low altitudes and selecting the best method for adjusting photogrammetric elevations on the basis of statoscope readings. The results of the evaluation of accuracy in determining the horizontal position of points from photogrammetric extension indicates that the mean square errors M sub xy will be plus or minus 0.25 - 0.30 mm at plan scale if the distance between control points in 5-6 km when making a survey at 1:5,000 and 2-2.5 km for a survey at 1:2,000.
