Abstract : In an attempt to develop useful antimalarial medicinal agents, a series of twenty two organic sulfur compounds were synthesized which were analogous in structure to 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone an effective antimalarial. Fifteen of these compounds were N-sulfonylsulfilimines, R2S=NSO2R', four were sulfoximines, R2S(0)NR', two were sulfones, R2SO2 while one was a sulfide, R2S. The substituents R were p-acetylaminophenyl, p-aminophenyl, methyl, 1,3,4-thiadiazol-5-yl, and 6-(3-acetylamino)pyridyl groups in various combinations. The R' groups were phenyl, p-tolyl, p-acetylaminophenyl, and p-aminophenyl groups. These compounds were tested for antimalarial properties in various tests employing mice, chicks, and mosquitoes. None of the compounds exhibited any important activity except for S-methyl-S-p-aminophenyl N-p-amino-benzenesulfonyl sulfilimine which was marginally active in the mouse test. (Author)
