Abstract : The operation and use of the NRL 60 MeV Electron Linear Accelerator is described for the period 1 July - 31 December 1968. Progress on the Linac Branch research program is discussed, including results of electron scattering on s-d shell nuclei, progress on two 16O photonuclear experiments, and studies of thermal neutron capture on Yb isotopes. The time-of-flight facility, used for resonance neutron capture experiments, is operational and preliminary results on capture by 170Yb have been obtained. A newly-installed gas target chamber for the electron scattering facility has enabled new data on 20Ne to be taken. Total beam time (including set-up time) increased from 1058 hours (1 January - 30 June 1968) to 1672 hours, of which 303 hours was devoted to outside users. Time lost due to breakdowns decreased to 11.8% of the total time, which was 2370 hours. Klystron life continues to be excellent - only two have failed since the linac was built. (Author)
