Abstract : Two rather unique methods were developed to determine the extent of air contamination in Ti:6Al-4V using the electron microprobe. One method gives a rapid measure of the contamination depth while the second results in a quantitative oxygen profile. This report describes the two methods in some detail and is demonstrated on three heat treatments. The results are compared to the more conventional optical metallography and microhardness measurements. (Author)
