Abstract : Experiments on the effects of sensory deprivation upon performance are summarized, and data and speculation presented to the effect that long term sensory deprivation may induce a state of 'sleep saturation' entailing both a slowing of cortical activity and a resistance to drowsiness normally evident, for example on a vigilance task.
