Abstract : Infra-red absorption spectra of selected families of inorganic solid compounds have been registered and discussed. The following types of compounds have been investigated: (1) Compounds with, or related to, the MgO (NaCl) structure. The spectrum, which is very simple for compounds with the true NaCl structure, is more complicated for LiX(III)O2 compounds; in this latter type of compounds, the study of 6Li - 7Li isotopic shifts shows that the low-frequency band (in the 300 - 200/cm region) must be assigned to a vibration of LiO6 octahedra, whereas the 600 - 400/cm absorption is essentially related to vibrations of the X(III)O6 octahedra. (2) Lithium compounds of various types. In this case, a systematic investigation of 6Li - 7Li isotopic frequency shifts demonstrates the occurrence of various (weak to very strong) types of vibrational interactions. (3) Compounds with the BaSO4 structure. Three problems have been investigated: the occurrence of frequency shifts in the spectrum of BaSO4 in relation with the methods of synthesis; the IR pattern of compounds of this type for different cations and anions; the IR spectrum of solid solutions.
