Abstract : Polyimide film was studied for possible application as the substrate for a unique thin-film initiator. Thin-film bridge resistors were electrolessly deposited on polyimide film with the extrusion striations either perpendicular or parallel to the direction the current would take when a charged capacitor is discharged through the bridge. Photomicrographs of the bridge resistors before and after capacitor discharge and photographic observations of current and voltage signals during discharge lead to the conclusion that for acceptable initiator operation resistors must be so deposited that the polyimide film striations are parallel to the direction of current.
