Abstract : Strength, fatigue, and creep in materials at high and low temperatures are reviewed. It is established that nonequilibrium temperature fields result in thermo-elastic and thermoplastic stresses which may lead to failure. The need for design criteria for these cases has arisen due to the growth of the turbine, rocket, and nuclear reactor industries. Working temperatures for these applications may range as high as 3000C and above. (Author)
