Abstract : Stress fields in the components of a multifiber, unidirectional composite that are caused by shear loading in axial directions are studied, and solutions are presented. Computations for various volumetric contents and material constants are described, as well as experiments which showed good correlation with the theoretical results from this work. Further, it is shown that certain mathematical solutions normally used for such problems are not compatible with present boundary conditions, and that the problem becomes two-dimensional.
