Abstract : This paper is concerned with the resolution of binary gaussian mixed series (mixtures), and considers the development of techniques for purposes of making measurements upon an observation signal mixture, as might be encountered in digital data transmission, radar, sonar, etc. environments. The measurements are intended to extract parametric data required in the attainment of optimum reception, detection, discrimination, or classification. The mixture resolving approaches taken consist of the decision-directed and the moment estimation concepts. The techniques are developed and carried out for a binary signal mixture, with the population parameters representing the two signal waveforms, as well as the noise, unknown. (Author)
