Abstract : The gas flow parameters in the compressed layer near the stagnation line are determined for a steady uniform supersonic flow of a heat-conducting viscous gas incident on a sphere or a cylinder. The Navier-Stokes equations of a compressible gas, given in a system of cylindrically polar or spherically polar coordinates, are essential in solving this problem. A local self-similar approximation or a technique involving the calculation of a two-dimensional region adjacent to the stagnation line is applied to the numerical solution of this problem by the finite-difference method.
