Abstract : In order to simulate a stellar source with a very high effective temperature, a pseudo-thermal source was built by using a He-Ne 6328A gaseous laser and a rotating ground glass disk. The statistical properties of intensity fluctuations of the pseudo-thermal source was investigated by measuring the histogram, higher order moments and power spectrum. These quantities were also estimated theoretically by applying the Fresnel formula of reflection and transmission locally to the tangential plane of the rough dielectric surface and by using the diffraction integral of electromagnetic waves. The statistical distribution of height of the random surface is assumed to be a Gaussian random process. The experimental results agrees qualitatively with the theoretical estimation. (Author)
