Abstract : A method is described for obtaining dihydroxydifluoride (O2F2 = dioxygen difluoride) from elements in a glow discharge as the first member of a series of fluorides of oxygen of the general formula OnF2. The reaction of the fluorine with the oxygen took place in a vacuum setup of pyrex glass with a glow discharge. In one experiment there was found F2 42.3%, O2 5O.7% as against the computed 50%, 50%. The experiments took place at low temperature, the fluorine-oxygen mixture being cooled as low as 90K. The degree of conversion depends on the specific energy. Ozone was formed in some variations of the experiments. The experimentation confirmed that for the obtaining of dihydroxydifluoride it is sufficient to activate the fluorine. The experiments showed that intense cooling of the walls of the reaction vessel is indispensable. The amount of dihydroxydifluoride obtained is proportional to the volumetric velocity of the flow of the gases. There was established the dependence of the degree of conversion of the fluorine-oxygen mixture on the specific energy.
