Abstract : Results of measurements of full vertical atmospheric absorption on a 4.1 mm wave are given. Measurements were conducted by radio astronomical methods at different heights above sea level, which made it possible to determine the effective path length for oxygen and water vapor of the atmosphere in absorption. Total absorption of the atmosphere from sea level during zenith observation is 0.26 + 0.0065 p neper, where p = absolute humidity in the surface layer of air. Effective heights of oxygen and water vapor of the atmosphere are respectively (4.3 plus or minus 0.3) km and (1.75 plus or minus 0.1) km. Coefficients of absorption of oxygen and water vapor at sea level are (0.213 plus or minus 0.02) and (0.13 plus or minus 0.02) dB/km respectively. The measurements of effective heights and coefficients of absorption agree satisfactorily with results of theoretical calculations of these values. (Author)
