Abstract : It was proposed to adapt materials and processes under development to the design and fabrication of a modular pulse-power, pile-type, lead-acid battery for test and evaluation as a potential building block in the construction of large pulse-power arrays. Work included a factorial test to determine the effects of operating parameters on cycle life, studies of electrodes made from a special alloy, voltage and current efficiency measurements, determination of operating characteristics of larger batteries, studies of more compact designs incorporating thinner, low resistance separators, and investigation of a low-maintenance design utilizing gelled electrolyte.
