Abstract : A method for the determination of fluorine in high fluorine content organic materials has been developed. The method consists of the oxygen flask decomposition of a sample, absorption of the combustion vapors in an excess of acidic lanthanum solution, and back titration of the excess lanthanum with diethylenetriaminepenta-acetic acid. The application of the fluoride ion activity electrode to the direct titration of fluoride with a rare earth titrant and the concept of the use of metallic magnesium as a combustion aid in decomposing organofluorine compounds were also investigated. Neither of these approaches showed promise of being the basis of an improved method. (Author)
