Abstract : The purpose of the research is to study the eigenvalue problem of the so-called Orr-Sommerfeld equation, which is used in the study of hydrodynamic stability. One of the complications of this eigenvalue search arises from the fact that the equation has three parameters: the wave number; the Reynolds number, which are real; and the complex wave velocity. Mathematically, we seek values such that the solution of the equation satisfies certain homogeneous boundary conditions in a semi-infinite domain. Thus, there are four independent parameters involved in the system, and high-speed solution becomes essential. In particular, we are interested in those values of wave numbered and Reynolds number such that the corresponding eigenvalue of complex wave velocity is real. The hybrid implementation, proposes to solve the differential equation in an analog computer at high speed, while performing the bookkeeping and eigenvalue search by a digital computer. (Author)
