Abstract : A technique is proposed for reducing the number of repititious solutions required to carry out a conventional parametric study of a theoretical problem. The technique is applicable to a particular class of problems which involve the numerical solution of differential equations. An applicability criterion is presented, along with a method for predicting the errors which might be expected, if a problem does not satisfy the criterion exactly. The proposed technique is applied to a periodic-flow heat exchanger, which is representative of the type of engineering problems to which the technique appears to afford the greatest potential.
