Abstract : The addition of certain carbon compounds (e.g., C2F4, C2H4 and C2H2) to atomic N/O mixtures results in emission of the CO Fourth Positive Bands (A singlet Pi - X singlet Sigma), and in large increases in the NO(+) chemi-ion formation rate. Addition of C2F4 also produces increases of the intensity of the NO gamma bands (A doublet Sigma - X doublet Pi), NO beta bands (B doublet Pi - X doublet Pi) and O(singlet S - singlet D) emission. The processes discussed should be distinguished from the formation of CHO(+) chemi-ions and CO(A singlet Pi) in the reactions of oxygen atoms with hydrocarbons such as C2H2. (Author)
