Abstract : The lower molecular weight carboxylic acids, formic, acetic, propionic, n-butyric, isobutric and trimethylacetic have been studied to find, firstly, whether there is any trend in thermodynamic properties due to mass or structure of the alkyl substituent, and secondly, to demonstrate the utility and limitations of a simple spectroscopic procedure for the determination of thermodynamic properties.
