Abstract : To clarify the concepts of the process of the preheating and ignition of aluminum particles used as additives in solid propellants, an analytical study was made of the ignition limits and induction time. It was shown that the optimal particle size increases as the temperature of the ambient medium decreases. The calculated induction time was shown to be about proportional to the square of the particle size up to the dimensions which are limiting for ignition. (Author)
