Abstract : The report summarizes the work accomplished and the present status of investigations of stress wave radiation from earthquakes and explosions in prestressed media. Specifically we have treated the radiation from an explosion in a prestressed plate as a superposition of stress relaxation and shock wave conversion, using an equivalent source for the latter. The results of this theoretical work are obtainable in the form of a computer program which can be used to predict the radiation field. A summary of the results of the work accomplished indicate that a relaxation (or initial value) source model gives results which are in good agreement with observations from earthquakes and explosions in prestressed media.
