Abstract : The bond strength of a double overlap glue joint is theoretically calculated. The joint is treated as a packet of five rectangular plates comprising two glue layers sandwiched between the three metal plates, each characterized by its thickness and mechanical properties. The stress is considered as acting parallel to the plane, and the deformation is within the elastic limit. A stress function is developed for each plate, and expressions are determined for the stress components which in turn, lead to the deformation components. The displacement components are developed from the geometric equations for the plane problem of the theory of elasticity. (Author)
