Abstract : The author describes and discusses an electromagnetic method for measuring the pressure in a Chapman-Jouguet plane and the duration of the chemical reaction in the shock waves of trotyl, hexogen, T.E.N., dynamite, and mixture of trotyl with hexogen. Results are given which indicate that the chemical reaction zone is 5 to 10 times as wide as the earlier 'spalling' method indicated. The experimentally obtained parameters of detonation of TNT and hexogen are in good agreement with independently calculated data. A chemical peak was found in the detonation wave of condensed explosives, confirming the contemporary hydrodynamic theory of detonation. (Author)
