Abstract : The theory of deformation of porous elastic solids by M. A. Biot is specialized for those cases where deformations do not significantly alter the fluid flow characteristics of the porous solid. Assuming that porosity and fluid pressure are known functions of the body coordinates, the theory is combined with the finite element stress analysis method. After further specialization to the case of axial symmetry, the SAAS II (Stress Analysis of Axisymmetric Solids, Version II) finite element computer program is modified to yield solutions to the subject class of problems. The method is then verified with solutions to example problems for which exact answers can be obtained. A listing of the three affected subroutines and instructions for their use are given. For the convenience of current SAAS II users, a summary table of program changes is included. (Author)
