Abstract : Measurements are presented of the microwave radiation from Jupiter in the wavelength range 0.8 - 1.5 cm. Wideband observations indicate a broad absorption feature caused by the pressure broadened microwave spectrum of the ammonia present in Jupiter's atmosphere. Spectral line observations show emission features which are interpreted as indicating the presence of a temperature inversion high in the Jovian atmosphere. The measurements are compared with theoretical spectra computed from variations of previously proposed model atmospheres for Jupiter. A new radio telescope was used for the observations and its precise calibration is also described. (Author)
