Abstract : A 2-D, Lagrangian, artificial-viscosity type computer code is used to calculate the effect of an initially constant magnetic field on an MHD model of a nuclear explosion. In this model, both the fireball and surrounding medium are fluids with infinite electrical conductivity. It is found that a sufficiently strong magnetic field will elongate the fireball in the direction of the field and increase the shock speed perpendicular to the field. The methods can be extended to treat more realistic cases, such as fluids of finite conductivity and plasmas. (Author)
