Abstract : The report presents and analysis of the deflections of and stresses in a noncircular cylindrical shell of uniform wall thickness whose mediansurface cross section is described analytically by a simple expression corresponding to a family of doublysymmetric ovals. In particular, two problems are considered: a simply supported cylindrer under uniform lateral load, and a hydrostaticallyloaded, clamped cylinder whose end sections are permitted constant axial displacement.
