Abstract : The report presents an extensive body of observational data and a preliminary evaluation of the data. The mean vertical mass exchange coefficient between 700 and 1800 m and 1800 and 3000 meters were computed from measurements of RaB concentration at three levels. 'Incremental' exchange coefficients of small, vertical adjoining layers (usually 100 m thickness) between 700 and 1800 m were determined from aerological sounding of particle concentration from electrical conductivity measurements. The exchange coefficients are related to the mean lapse rates, stability energy and maximum local lapse rates in inversions. The effect of air mass changes, heat of condensation and wind shear are discussed. Lapse rates during the measurements ranged from +0.3c/100 meters to 1.1c/100. Computed exchange coefficients vary from 0 to 1000 g/cm/sec. The relation between temperature gradient and exchange coefficient shows considerable scatter, especially in the 800-1800 meters region. The region from 1800-3000 meters shows less scatter. Regression lines show a change of slope at lapse rates of about -0.2c/100 meters at the lower levels and at about 0.5c/100 at the higher region.
