Abstract : The existence and location of de-excitation shocks in near-frozen non-equilibrium expanding nozzle flows is discussed for a general family of rate processes. Possible asymptotic limiting solutions are obtained for power-law nozzle shapes when the rate function adopts a simple separable form. It is shown that under certain circumstances it is the initial magnitude of the rate parameter that controls the asymptotic behavior. (Author)
