Abstract : The report demonstrates the use of the theory of invariant imbedding to reduce the solution of a Fredholm integral equation to the solution of a set of ordinary differential equations with specified initial values. Various investigations in rarefiedgas dynamics require the solution of Fredholm integral equations with displacement kernels, and application of the invariant imbedding approach is useful. One important aspect of the approach is that a solution may be obtained at the boundaries only, disregarding the interior, with a significant savings in computational time and trouble. (Author)
