Abstract : The relative rates of propane adsorption on a smooth platinum anode in two formal acid solutions at 65C were in the following order: CF3CO2H > H2SO4 > H3PO4. The initial rates of propane adsorption appear to be inversely proportional to specific anion adsorption. The onset of anode oxidation appears to be potentially dependent on the relative oxidizing power of the acids. The oxidizing power of the acids investigated in decreasing order is H3PO4 approx. = H2SO4 > CF3CO2H. (Author)
