Abstract : The R. F. characteristics of an improved radiating element for glide slope use are described. Specifically, these characteristics are described in terms of the two principal plane radiation patterns, the vertical polarization level and the VSWR of the antenna. The method used for suppressing inherent vertical polarization levels is discussed. The network employed to match the antenna to a VSWR less than 1.2:1 is shown. The deicing capabilities are discussed and the conclusions of an FAA report on the deicing circuits are presented. An array study was performed to determine the number of elements required with a transmitter power of 15 watts. (Author)
