Abstract : The report gives a geographical description of the natural landscapes existing in Turkmenia and the individual landscape elements in that Soviet Republic: topography, climate, hydrography, soils and culture features. The article gives the results of aerial surveys made in the principal landscape types of Turkmenia; particular attention in this article is given to the relationship between ground water and relief, vegetation and soils, and a description of what features serve as indicators of ground water and how these indicators appear on aerial photographs.
