Abstract : A digital simulation of the Basic Oxygen Steel Furnace was achieved and shown to reproduce the available data taken from the literature within 10%. Using the simulation as an off-line model of the process, an endpoint control system has been designed. A sub-optimal and an optimal endpoint control system were designed. Both systems make use of the available feedback from the process, which consists of previously existing instrumentation for effluent gas analysis and an instrument concurrently and independently designed for quick carbon analysis.
